FAQ
Questions, answered straight.
What Halden is, what it works with, what coaches can see, and what it deliberately doesn't do.
What is Halden, in one sentence?
An AI fitness coaching platform that reads your recovery data and workout logs every night and tells you exactly what to do tomorrow, and why, with citations.
Is Halden a workout tracker, a workout planner, or an AI coach?
All three, in one loop. It's a workout tracker (set-level logging with RPE/RIR and pain flags), a recovery and readiness app (a transparent 0–100 score from sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, soreness, and fatigue), and an adaptive workout planner that regenerates tomorrow's session every night from that data. The tracking exists to feed the planning.
What is a readiness score?
A 0–100 number summarizing how recovered you are today, computed deterministically from your last 14 days of sleep, HRV trend, resting-heart-rate trend, soreness, and fatigue. In Halden every subscore is visible, the same inputs always produce the same score, and the score directly shapes tomorrow's plan: progression when it's high, reduced volume and intensity when it's low.
Which devices and apps does it work with?
Anything that writes to Apple Health. That covers Apple Watch and popular watches, rings, straps, and food-logging apps. Halden reads Apple Health directly, so there's no per-brand integration list to check.
Do I need an Apple Watch or a wearable?
No. Wearable data makes the readiness score richer, but a ten-second manual check-in (soreness and fatigue) works too, and your set-level workout logs drive planning either way.
Do I need a coach to use it?
No. Onboarding generates a starter plan adapted to your training age and equipment, down to bodyweight-only, and it's honestly labeled as a starter plan until real data arrives. The plan regenerates every night, you can adjust it on demand around a focus you choose, and a human coach is an optional add-on through the marketplace.
Can I build my own workouts?
Yes. Build your own workout templates on the web and start them from your phone, or repeat a recent workout, or start from an empty log. Your own sessions stay separate from anything a coach assigned.
Is there an Android app?
Not yet. Halden is iPhone + web today. Android support via Health Connect is designed and on the roadmap, but we won't claim it works before it does.
Is it on the App Store?
Not yet. We're in early access: join the waitlist and we'll email you when invites open. There is no public download link today.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. The early-access build has real tablet layouts, with a side navigation rail and multi-column screens, rather than a stretched phone app.
How does the AI decide my plan? Can I trust it?
Planning is transparent rules over your own data: a deterministic 0–100 readiness score (every subscore visible) adjusts a goal-and-equipment-based template, informed by your logged sets, recovery, and nutrition. Every plan shows a plain-language rationale plus citations from a strength & conditioning reference corpus.
What stops the AI from giving dangerous advice?
Five deterministic safety gates run before any AI responds: emergency symptoms, pain and injury, eating-disorder risk, supplements, and readiness downshift. They're hard-coded rules sourced to AHA and NEDA guidance, and a flagged message never reaches the AI at all.
Is this medical advice?
No. Halden provides general fitness guidance, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The safety gates route you to qualified professionals when something looks beyond a training app's lane.
What can a coach see about me?
Nothing, until you say so. A new coach connection starts with zero access; you grant data categories individually (workouts, readiness, nutrition, health), can revoke them anytime, and every coach read is written to an audit log.
How do coaches assign workouts?
Coaches build workout templates on the web, either by drag and drop or by pasting the plain-text program they already write, with AI-assisted parsing for messy notes and a review step before anything is saved. Then they assign templates to specific dates on each client's calendar. Clients see today and tomorrow on their phone, and the full roadmap on the web.
Can coaches message me in the app?
Not yet. The coach portal is about data visibility (readiness, adherence, logs, nutrition), not chat. How you and your coach communicate stays wherever it works today.
Does it track calories and set calorie targets?
It imports calories and macros from your food app via Apple Health so you can see intake next to training, but it sets only a personalized protein target (about 1.6 g per kg of bodyweight). No calorie targets and no restrictive coaching; that's deliberate.
What does it cost?
Early access is free. Pricing isn't final yet; early-access users will hear about it first, before anything changes.
Halden provides general fitness guidance, not medical advice. If something hurts, or a health question is on your mind, talk to a qualified professional.
